What do you know about Polissya?

Wild animals of the Kyiv region have found their natural home in Polissya. Deer, Fallow deer, roe deer, and wild boars live here, while lakes and marshes are home to fish and waterfowl. Alongside traditional representatives of the local fauna, rare species live in the region as well — Hungarian Mangalica pigs, Ukrainian Grey cattle, bison, camels, and Przewalski's horses.

The animal inhabitants of Polissya are not just a list of species, but a holistic ecosystem worth preserving. Observing animals in natural conditions gives visitors the opportunity to see wild nature live rather than from a screen — a particularly valuable experience for both adults and children.

The Chornobyl disaster forced thousands of Polissya inhabitants to leave their native villages. A significant part of the region became deserted: houses were left without owners, and former agricultural lands gradually returned to a wild state. Today, the region faces the task of bringing life back here while preserving the natural balance that has formed over years without active human activity.

The mission of "Medvyno" goes beyond nature conservation: the park creates jobs for local residents, develops ecological tourism, and gives people a reason to visit these territories once again.

Polissya is not only about forests and animals, but also cultural heritage that needs preservation. Ancient songs, traditional weaving, embroidery, and a special local dialect are still preserved in the region — elements of culture that are gradually disappearing in other parts of Ukraine.

The plans for "Medvyno" include creating a Museum of Polissya Culture, where visitors will be able to get acquainted with authentic crafts of the region and learn more about its history.

Polissya remains one of the few places in Ukraine where nature has been preserved virtually in its primal form. The development of ecotourism in the region allows combining outdoor recreation with environmental conservation and support for local communities.
